Hero Balancer: the application and technology

Hero Balancer ensures an optimal match between the heat demand in a building or apartment complex, with absolute priority for renewable energy sources.

The smart control constantly matches the (renewable) generated heat to the energy consumption of the residents and the building. It uses predictions and patterns, and especially temporary storage in buffers. This way, the energy that is generated when it is most efficient, when the sun shines brightest for example, can be stored untill the energy is actually needed.

Hero Balancer provides a clever deployment of various sources for renewable heat generation, such as solar thermal panels, heat pump, buffers or the regular heating boiler. It is constantly looking at how much heat is available and necessary. Hero Balancer does this by using smart predictions and expectations.

TAKING WEATHER FORECASTS INTO ACCOUNT

Hero Balancer first collects information about weather forecasts for the next day.

This gives an adequate picture of how much heat can be generated by, for example, the solar thermic panels. Besides the intensity of solar radiation, the temperature is also an important variable, as it vastly influences the amount of energy needed for heating.

THE EARTH AS A BUFFER

During the winter we heat the apartments with maximum generated renewable heat.

During the summer we extract the excess heat from the apartments, so that they are cool and comfortable. The extracted warmth, the excess energy from the summer, is stored in the earth, to be used in the winter. This way, the earth is used as one big buffer.

FOCUSSING ON THE BEHAVIOUR OF RESIDENTS

The behaviour of the residents is also of great importance.

If more people use warmth (douching and washing) in the morning, than the buffers need to filled to full capacity with warm water. If the warm water usage is more spread out throughout the day, the buffers do not need to be filled up entirely, as they can then directly be filled with solar warmt, should it be available. This way, the distribution of renewable energy is constantly being optimized, by constantly comparing demand and supply.

ALGORITHM ALWAYS USES THE CORRECT SOURCE.

Hero Balancer studies the supply and demand of warmth and thinks.

How much warmth is available now, how much warmth do I need to give, and what delivers that warmth? Using this information, the software in Hero Balancer, the algorithm, decides which source to use. Renewable sources are prioritized in the process of providing the buffers with warmth, but sometimes a boiler can contribute if it proves to be necessary.

USERS ENJOY RENEWABLE COMFORT

For the residents and users, nothing changes.

They can still rely on the same soothing warmth, at any time they wish. The only difference is that the warmth is generated with renewable energy. In other words: residents and users do not have to do anything, are working towards a renewable future, and are surrounded by the comfort they are used to.

SAVE UP TO 40%

The exceptional thing about Hero Balancer is that its programming allows it to guide any control system with multiple warmth sources, so that it profits considerably.

How considerable this profit is of course depends on the current programming, and how well it can calculate energy- and cost-savings. With a system that does not make use of predictions or weather forecasts, and does not give priority to renewable sources, it is possible to save up to 40%! Even with well-organized renewable energy-installations, Hero Balancer can still cause savings of 2 to 5%.
